PUNE: In a major crackdown on illegal gambling, Pune Rural Police raided a high-end bungalow in Lonavla late Saturday night, busting an organised racket and seizing assets worth ₹49.54 lakh.

Acting on a tip-off, a team conducted the raid around 3 am at a bungalow in Kunegaon, Maval taluka, where several individuals were found playing cards with high cash stakes. Police seized ₹3.14 lakh in cash, along with mobile phones, playing cards, gambling equipment and six vehicles.
Police Inspector Rajesh Ramaghare of Lonavla City Police Station said, “A total of 21 people were taken into custody. Action is also being initiated against the bungalow owner.” All the accused are from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane and Goa, most from the business community. Police said the group had rented the bungalow for a weekend stay, police said.
Police have urged property owners to exercise caution while renting out premises.
A case has been registered at Lonavla City Police Station under Sections 4 and 5 of the Gambling Act. Further investigation is underway.
