Motorcyclist killed after cement mixer truck overturns near Navale Bridge

A 31-year-old man was killed when a cement mixer truck overturned and crushed his motorcycle on the Pune-Bengaluru Highway near Navale Bridge.

A 31-year-old man from Beed district was killed in a road accident near Navale Bridge on the Pune-Bengaluru Highway after a cement mixer truck overturned and crushed the motorcycle he was riding, police said on Wednesday.

The accident took place near Pulse Hospital at around 12.30 am on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Rameshwar Machindra Bhogale of Waghjai Nagar in Katraj and hailed from Sangvi village.

Ishwar Chavan, inspector (crime), Narhe Police Station, said, “The accused was driving a 16-tyre cement mixer truck on the Katraj–Bavdhan route in a rash and negligent manner. While negotiating a turn at Navale Chowk, the heavy vehicle overturned.”

The truck fell onto a motorcycle travelling towards Bavdhan on its left side, crushing the rider beneath it. Bhogale died on the spot. The truck driver sustained minor head injuries.

Passers-by and motorists alerted the police and emergency services. Traffic on the highway was restored after rescue teams removed the overturned vehicle from the stretch.
