Pune: The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC), in a circular issued on Wednesday, has discontinued the typing skill test conducted for Group-C services recruitment to the posts of clerk-typist and tax assistant.

Until now, candidates were required to appear for a separate typing skill test conducted by the commission even if they already possessed a government-recognised typing certificate. This led to duplication in the evaluation process and delayed the selection procedure. Under the revised process, candidates will now only have to clear the preliminary and mains examinations.
Verification of typing certificates will be carried out at the government level.
Mahendra Harpalkar, secretary, MPSC, said, “Candidates possessing Government Certificate in Computer Typing (GCC) are only allowed to appear for exams. The change would help complete the recruitment process faster.”
Mahesh Gharbude, president, Competitive Examination Students Association, said, “MPSC had faced legal disputes and court proceedings related to typing skill tests. The decision is likely to streamline the recruitment process and speed up appointments.”
