Police claim there has been an increase in the use of weapons in crimes throughout Pimpri-Chinchwad city. Social media is flooded with videos of college students wielding firearms, as well as known criminals. Vikay Kumar Chaubey, police commissioner of Pimpri-Chinchwad, gave orders for authorities to take strict action against such culprits.

Harish Mane, assistant police inspector at anti-gunda squad, said, “We have conducted a special drive, under which we have seized weapons in large number and registered 36 cases for illegally carrying firearms and 150 cases for carrying various other weapons without permissions.’’

Mane further said, under the drive, we have also arrested 211 persons.

In this drive, the anti-robbery squad of the Pimpri-Chinchwad police got first prize, and anti-gunda squad got second prize and crime branch unit 3 secured third place.

Police will continue to take such measures against anyone who are carrying weapons without authorization, according to Chaubey.
