The election will be held on April 28 (Friday), and a total of 57 candidates are in the fray for 18 seats.

Of the 195 candidates who had filed their nominations, 138 withdrew their papers. Among 18 seats, 11 candidates are from primary co-operative institutes, 4 members are from the gram panchayat section, 2 candidates are from traders and one candidate is from the potters’ category.

Prakash Jagtap, election officer, said, “Voting will take place at two locations on Friday. For primary cooperative institutes and the gram panchayat section, the voting will be held at Sandip Satav School in Aryaneshwar. For the traders and potters’ section, the voting will be held at Hamal Panchayat Bhavan, Market Yard.”

Traditionally, the Pune APMC is dominated by the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), but to give a close fight this time BJP too has formed a panel for the elections. But no party has nominated a candidate in the traders’ category as there is a close fight for this post. The candidates from these categories are contesting the election as independent candidates.
