Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday expressed shock over the alleged suicide of a 29-year-old woman doctor in Satara district, calling it “a tragedy that shakes the conscience of any civilized society.”

In a post on X, Gandhi said the doctor ended her life after facing rape and harassment. “A promising young doctor, who dedicated her life to healing others, became a victim of exploitation by criminals shielded by a corrupt and powerful system,” he wrote.
Taking aim at the government, Gandhi alleged that those responsible for protecting citizens had themselves committed the most heinous crime. “The very authority meant to safeguard people has become a perpetrator of injustice. According to reports, individuals linked to the BJP also tried to pressure her into corruption,” he said.
He further described the incident as “not a suicide but an institutional murder,” adding that when power becomes a shield for criminals, justice becomes impossible. “The doctor’s death has exposed the inhuman and insensitive face of this BJP government,” Gandhi said.
Expressing solidarity with the victim’s family, the Congress leader added, “We stand firmly with her family in this fight for justice. For every daughter of India—no more fear, we demand justice.”
