Residents of NIBM stage protest against irregular water supply, lack of civic amenities
They demanded good roads, levelling of NIBM annexe connecting road slope including installation of road safety measures by the traffic department for the overall development of the area
PUNE The residents of NIBM annexe area belonging to 25 different residential societies staged a protest on Sunday near Nine Hills Residential Society demanding 24X7 drinking water supply and better civic amenities.
They also demanded good roads, levelling of NIBM annexe connecting road slope including installation of road safety measures by the traffic department for the overall development of the area.
A two-kilometre human chain was formed by the volunteers under Anandvan Parisar Residents Forum (APRF) demanding an end to the private tankers-based water supply to the area.
Nitin Bokey, president APRF, said, “Despite many letters of follow-ups to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) petitions and meetings during the last one year, there has been no progress on the issues related to water supply, sewage system and reducing the sharp gradient of the road approaching Anandvan from NIBM including its widening.”
“All the area residents are facing inconvenience due to these issues,” he said.
Tara Singh, secretary APRF, said, “The residents cannot be made to suffer despite paying taxes. We want a twenty-four-hour water supply to our area, and at the same time the slope gradient must be levelled to make commuting safer for the residents.”
Sangeeta Tombre, another area resident from Nine Hills, said, “Residents have been suffering due to PMC inaction.”
PMC officials could not be contacted for a comment despite repeated attempts.
