Rickshaw driver in custody for trying to kill pedestrian in Pune

PUNE A rickshaw driver was remanded to police custody of Pimpri Chinchwad police for allegedly trying to kill a pedestrian, who was unknown to him, for “ignoring his questions,” according to the police. The 21-year-old man sustained a fractured hand and backbone along with other injuries.

The injured man has been identified as Aditya Borate, 21, a businessman living in the Dattanagar area of Dudulgaon, Moshi while the accused was identified as Rihaj Gafur Shaikh, 29, a resident of the same area.

“He (accused) was standing near a piece of open land with his rickshaw late in the night when this pedestrian was walking from the same road. The rickshaw driver started asking the pedestrian some questions and the 21-year-old ignored him which enraged him and he ran his rickshaw on him,” said police sub-inspector (PSI) Vidya Mane of Dighi police station who is investigating the case.

A court has granted police custody of four days on Sunday.

A case under Sections 307 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code along with Sections 184 and 119/177 of the Motor Vehicle Act was registered at Dighi police station.
