Pune: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has directed all its affiliated colleges, recognised institutions and academic departments on the university campus to establish Electoral Literacy Clubs (ELCs) according to the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

A circular issued on July 6 stated that every institution must appoint a teacher or faculty member as the ELC coordinator or nodal officer. Institutions have also been encouraged to appoint Campus Ambassadors on a rotational basis to increase peer participation and engage students in electoral awareness activities.
Colleges must complete setting up the clubs and report their establishment details to the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) of the concerned Assembly constituency.
Through awareness programmes and demonstrations, the clubs will introduce students to voter registration procedures, preparation and updating of electoral rolls, Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) systems.
Students will be encouraged to create election-awareness content under institutional guidance and promote it on social media. Active club members and institutions undertaking innovative initiatives may receive recognition for their efforts.
