Six accused for thrashing PG girls for wearing shorts granted bail

PUNE Six members of a family, including a woman accused in the case of assaulting two paying guest (PG) girls for wearing shorts were granted bail in the case by a court on Saturday, according to the police.
“They appeared in court and were granted bail on personal bond of ₹1,200. We did not arrest them but they appeared in court themselves,” said senior police inspector Sunil Jadhav of Chandannagar police station.
The police had registered a case against six people for forcefully entering a paying guest (PG) facility in Kharadi’s Anusaya Park area in Rakshaknagar Phase 1 and assaulting the guests as well as the owner over the issue of the women wearing shorts, according to the complaint in the matter.
“We have recovered CCTV footage of the incident and the woman can be seen hurling a slipper, hitting the girl,” said senior PI Jadhav.
Those accused in the case are neighbours in the area of the PG and includes two women who used footwear to beat up the victims, according to the complaint.
The incident happened around 10:15 pm on Wednesday as the three women were returning to the PG facility. A complaint in the matter was lodged by a 32-year-old woman, who was among the three and owns the PG facility.
In the complaint, the 32-year-old mentioned that the accused were threatening to break their house and the PG facility. There were rumors about the accused filing a cross complaint against the complainant. However, that is not the case, said police.
Chargesheet is awaited. A case under Sections 448 (house trespassing), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (insult with an intention to provoke breach of peace), 506 (criminal intimidation), 143, 147, and 149 of the Indian Penal Code that was registered at Chandannagar police station.
