The Crime Branch of Pune city police has detained three more accused, including a minor, in connection with the extortion and firing case in Phursungi, which is allegedly linked to members of the Bishnoi gang. With the latest detentions, the number of accused held in the case has risen to four, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place on June 22, 2026, when unidentified persons allegedly called a prominent Pune businessman and demanded ₹50 crore as extortion. Within two hours of the threat call, two armed assailants allegedly fired four rounds at the gate of the businessman’s company in Phursungi to intimidate him and reinforce the demand.
Following the attack, the Pune Crime Branch launched an investigation using technical surveillance, CCTV footage and other electronic evidence to identify the shooters. Investigators found that the accused had fled Maharashtra soon after the incident.
On the directions of the Pune police commissioner, multiple Crime Branch teams were sent to Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Punjab to track down the suspects. After coordinated raids over five days, police arrested Pawan Prakashram Barad (24), a resident of Rajasthan’s Hanumangarh district, on July 2.
Further investigation revealed the alleged involvement of Satyaprakash Kaluram Shilora (25), an employee of the targeted company. He was arrested on July 4 for allegedly providing information about the businessman and the company’s operations to the shooters.
