Pune: Two young men from Maval taluka died when the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a car near Hirkani Resort Naigaon in Maval at around 1.15 am on Friday. The victims, identified as Omkar Datta Arde, 22, and Darshan Balu Shinde, 15, from Shinde Patewadi, Wadeshwar, were on their way to Visapur Fort to bring the traditional Shiv Jyot (flame) to their village as part of customary celebrations marking the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Both sustained severe injuries and died on the spot, police said.

Two car occupants, Amar Sunil Padwal, 32, and Ajay Dattatray Devkar, 31, of Maval taluka, were also critically injured and later rushed to a hospital in Somatane Phata.

According to a complaint filed by Aryan Rajesh Khandbhor, 21, of Shinde Ghatewadi, the driver of Swift car allegedly entered another lane and hit an Ertiga car and the motorcycle.

Shankar Patil, senior inspector, Kamshet Police Station said, “We have filed a case under Sections 105, 281, 125 (a), 125(b), 324(4) (6) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 184, 134/177 of the Motor Vehicles Act.”
