On Monday, the Thane Municipal Corporation has proposed to develop 22 per cent of the total land available in the city. The city will get 23 new planned residential complexes with state-of-the-art facilities.

Sandeep Malvi, public relations officer of TMC, said, “Around 5,903 hectares of land in Thane is available for development, out of which, 1,291 hectares (22 per cent) will be developed under the scheme. The city will get many amenities related to sports, culture, security, transport and community city centres on a par with international standards.”

While presenting the plan to state public works department minister Eknath Shinde, the TMC commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal said the scheme will also generate 51% employment opportunity for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

The municipal corporation is drafting the Urban Renewal Plan (URP) for small clusters which will act as a Development Plan of the area. Each cluster will have a minimum area of 10,000 square metres for development. The planned development of eight clusters sanctioned in the city will also generate job opportunities.

The scheme is likely to benefit the suburbs of Kalwa, Mumbra and Kausa, which will too, undergo major development under the scheme.

Shinde said there would be no compromise on the development of the city.

“The scheme will bring about a tremendous development in Thane. We will ensure that the corporation receives all support from the state,” Shinde said.

PLANNED DEVELOPMENT

The city has 3,693 dangerous buildings in which more than 3.7 lakh people live. As per primary estimation, TMC can construct 10,000 buildings with four floor space index (FSI) available under the scheme.

Around1.25 lakh homes would be built in Thane. The scheme is likely to bring investments worth Rs5,000 crore to Rs10,000 crore to the city.

Every cluster will have open space, road, parking and facilities of solid waste management and sewage treatment.
