Delhi Police on Thursday night arrested a 29-year-old ‘wanted’ gangster Saddam Gauri — and two of his associates — after a brief shootout in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.

Gauri, a close aide of Neeraj Bawana, was wanted in a number of criminal cases like murders, attempts to murder, robberies, dacoities, snatching and for having attacked policemen. He was also booked under MCOCA, police said. All the three criminals sustained bullet injuries on their legs.

Police identified Gauri’s suspects as Usman (33), a resident of Meerut and 19-year-old Dalip. The shootout took place in the Transport Nagar, Meerut, around 9.15 pm, police said.

Deputy commissioner of police (special cell) PS Kushwah said while Gauri was sustained bullet injuries in both his legs. Usman and Dalip were hit once each too.

“Our teams, with the help of UP police teams intercepted a car following specific inputs, stating that Gauri and his men were travelling to Meerut. The occupants of the car opened fire on police teams and we retaliated in response. Two of our men and one of the UP police were hit but were saved by their bullet-proof jackets. A total of 15 rounds were fired by both sides,” Kushwah said.
