10:14 AM IST That ends the coverage from the second Test match of the Ashes. Australia have taken a 2-0 lead in the series and are favorites now to retain the urn. But England cannot be ruled out yet. They will look to fighback and give their rivals a hard time. 10:15 AM IST Marnus Labuschagne, Player of the Match, says that credit to Warner was batting so well. Mentions that he tried to absorb the pressure but says that when one has Warner in a team, it becomes easier. Tells that he congratulated himself on how he played. Adds that to get the win is very special and it is important to not get the foot off the pedal. Tells that playing with Neser and Richardson is brilliant and they are both unique and are brilliant in their own forms. Says that all his wishes are coming true and mentions that getting his first Ashes ton is special but is disappointed that he didn't make it into a big one despite getting a few chances.

10:08 AM IST Steven Smith, the skipper of Australia, says that he was not nervous and he enjoyed himself out there in the middle. Mentions that Jos Buttler played really well out there, he showed some resilience along with Woakes and Ollie Robinson. But they had to stay calm and wait for the right ball to get the wickets. Mentions that, David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne's partnership set things up for them and Mitchell Starc led the attack very well. He hit the right lengths and kept attacking the batsman. Also, he adds, Cameron Green was not supposed to bowl today as they had to manage his workload, but had to bowl a few overs because the situation demanded. He further adds that, Marcus Harris has been in the nets and should not overthink it and should just trust the process. Concludes by saying that, they have entertaining people in these difficult Covid time as the protocols are very high and says that they will go about doing their business as good as they can.

10:14 AM IST Joe Root, the England skipper, says that it was a rough day yesterday. Adds that they did not bowl the right lengths in the first innings and they had to bowl fuller, which they did in the second innings and managed to get wickets. Adds that it was disappointing because they made the same mistake four years ago. Mentions that they need to be better and they still have a chance to come back in the series. Further adds that they are confident and have to be confident and they will be hoping not the repeat the same mistakes again. On being asked about Buttler's innings, Joe Root, says that they need that kind of attitude, and mindset throughout the series.

10:23 AM IST Earlier, Australia set the tone in the first innings itself by posting 473 runs on the board where David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne, Steven Smith, Alex Carey made significant contributions whereas the lower-order too made handy runs before Steven Smith decided to declare. England faced collapse as they went from 150-2 to 236 all out where only Dawid Malan and Joe Root scored the bulk of runs for them. Steven Smith didn't enforce the follow on and his side added another 230 runs giving England a target of 467 runs. England faced the same issue as they lost wickets in heap and except Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes, no one showed grit and determination and in the end they lost by 275 runs.

10:21 AM IST It looked like Australia would quickly wrap things up in the second session as they needed just 4 wickets to win but they had to toil hard to get the remaining wickets. With the new ball too, the bowlers didn't get much out of it until Jhye Richardson bowled a peach of a delivery to dismiss Chris Woakes. The bowlers were made to work very hard to get the wickets and only got one more wicket before Tea. With just 2 wickets needed in the final session, it was always easy for them to get it as they had to bowl it under lights and only had Jos Buttler as a challenge in front of them but he himself made it easy for them by knocking himself out and then Jhye Richardson made his day special by scalping the final wicket, picking up his maiden five-wicket haul in Test cricket and giving Australia a victory.

10:15 AM IST Drawing the Test match was always an improbable task for England but credit to Jos Buttler for showing such grit, temperament, determination and an impressive rearguard. He faced 207 balls to give his side a chance to draw this Test but all the hard-work ended as Buttler hit the wicket himself. Chris Woakes too batted brillaintly and built a 61-run stand with him but got out. Ollie Robinson too showed a bit of a fight but Nathan Lyon had him before the Tea break and England had only 2 wickets in their tank especially with final session being played under the lights. Once Jos Buttler fell, it was just a matter of time for the Australian pacers to get the final wicket.

10:19 AM IST There it is! Australia have scalped those 2 wickets in no time. It fits perfectly as well as Jhye Richardson bags a fifer to his name. He is the man of the hour at the moment. Maiden five-wicket haul for him in Test cricket. Got a chance to prove himself with Hazlewood and Cummins out of this Test, he showed his worth and how. Australia have conquered Gabba and Adelaide now and have a 2-0 lead in the series.

9:25 AM IST Cannot help but liken this rearguard action from Jos Buttler to the one showed by South Africa's Faf du Plessis 9 years ago, at this very ground. Faf had stayed unbeaten on 110 from a mammoth 376 balls, spending 466 minutes at the crease, ensuring that his team did not lose. Buttler has just crossed the 200-mark here in terms of balls faced. A key difference is that Faf had AB de Villiers to see off nearly two sessions. Here, it has been Buttler trusting his own abilities and shepherding the lower order. Either ways, magnificent to watch. Make no mistake - Australia have thrown everything that they possibly could have - but Buttler and England's lower order have been defiantly stubborn. 9:03 AM IST Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes started off right where they left off from. They were on top in the first half-hour of the session, but Woakes fell soon to a ripper by Jhye Richarson. Ollie Robinson did well to hang in there but he too failed to hold on and was dismissed by Nathan Lyon! Jos Buttler is still out there in the middle and has been terrific and has shown immense grit and determination.

Probably this session was not completely dominated by the hosts, as England were as solid as a rock in the session courtesy to Jos Buttler who has batted for over four hours now. Nathan Lyon bagged the prized scalp of Ben Stokes, after reviewing the LBW decision. Since then, they have not managed to get any wicket. Nathan Lyon has missed his lengths on several occasions, going shorter most of the times, and has not got the desired result, but however, he has been able to extract a lot of turn. Just before the end of the first session, we saw Marnus Labuschagne roll his arm over, and bowled a beauty of an over. 3:19 AM IST England faced yet another collapse on Day 4. It was integral for them that their openers remain unscathed till Stumps and have an outside chance to draw the match. But that wasn't the case as they lost 4 wickets which includes their pillars - Dawid Malan and Joe Root. Joe Root went through a lot of pain but kept batting and showed fighting spirit but in the final minutes of Day 4, he got out and walked off in disbelief. Shouldn't be long before Australian bowlers breathe fire unless we are in for a surprise.

3:47 AM IST Australia batted one and a half sessions on Day 4 and in that, they managed to pile a plethora of runs and set a target of 468 runs for England. The bowlers have done their job picking up 4 wickets and Australia are now on top of this context. The bowlers would look to wrap things quickly by taking the remaining wickets and take an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the 5-match series.

11:44 AM IST Yet another collapse was on the horizon for England, but Root and Stokes managed to steady the ship in the middle, until the last over when Root nicked one back to the slips. Stokes looked pretty conservative with the blade and he has a huge task to overcome on the final day. Chasing down the target won’t be in their mind at all. To be honest, to pull out a draw out of this fixture isn’t going to be an easy task at all with just 6 wickets in hand. England would need more than the rub of green to take out something out of this game. Steven Smith was smart with his bowling combinations. All the bowlers probed good lines and lengths but could not find success. But the pink-ball specialist, Starc, comes out with a ripper to get his a step closer to the finish line.

11:37 AM IST A hard-fought battle by the visitors, but the hosts enjoyed plenty of success. Malan and Burns after being looked to have settled in the middle negotiated the first half-hour of the final session really well against the consistent attack of Lyon, combined with Green, Neser and Richardson. After several attempts, Lyon got the outside edge of Malan, but Smith ended up dropping that one at slips. 11:49 AM IST A top session for the Aussies. Mitchell Starc comes out with a hammer blow in the final over to get rid of Root at the stroke of STUMPS. Australia bagged three wickets in this session and gave away only 62 runs. They surely would’ve liked to take a couple more scalps and extend the play to end the game this evening itself but that was not the case.

They have managed to pick up a wicket but importantly, kept the minds of the English batters clouded, making them circumspect.
