'I want a game where you can actually create 20 chances': Warner sets record straight on the Rawalpindi pitch fiasco

Australia's David Warner opened up on the surface in Rawalpindi after the first Test of the series against Pakistan. ended in a dull draw.

Australian's opening batter David Warner has opened up on the pitch condition in the first Test of the series against Pakistan in Rawalpindi, which came under significant scrutiny throughout the course of the Test. Only 14 wickets fell throughout the five days of the Test, with Pakistan declaring their first innings on 476/4 and both openers remaining unbeaten with centuries in the second. Australia had scored 459 in their first innings but there wasn't enough time to induce a result when the visitors were bowled out.

Many former Pakistan cricketers including former captains Inzamam-ul-Haq, Shahid Afridi, Salman Butt, and Mohammad Hafeez have been critical of the pitch condition in Rawalpindi. Australia captains Pat Cummins, during a post-match interaction, had also stated that the pitch was made in an attempt to nullify their pace bowling attack. Now, Australia's leading opener Warner insisted that he wants a game where a team can “create 20 chances.”

“I just want a game where you can actually create 20 chances,” Warner said on Thursday. “It's something that's going to be exciting and entertaining for the crowd.”

Pakistan scored 476-4 declared and 252-0 in its two innings against Australia's three frontline fast bowlers and even veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon couldn't achieve any success on a lifeless track.

“When he (Lyon) was hitting that rough, it wasn't doing anything, was just pretty much going straight on slow off the wicket,” Warner said.

“There wasn't any variable bounce, which you generally do see on worn wickets.”

Earlier, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ramiz Raja said Pakistan has planned low-bouncy tracks for Australia's first tour to Pakistan since 1998, keeping in mind Pakistan's strength against a tough opponent.

Pakistan's two Test fast bowlers Hasan Ali and all-rounder Faheem Ashraf were ruled out due to injuries they had picked up during the Pakistan Super League.
