Dravid touches 12,000 milestone

Senior Indian batsman Rahul Dravid today became only the third player in history to score 12,000 Test runs when he reach 43 during the first match against South Africa in Centurion.

Senior Indian batsman Rahul Dravid today became only the third player in history to score 12,000 Test runs when he reach 43 during the first match against South Africa in Centurion.

Dravid, who went into the first Test needing 57 to touch 12,000 runs, had scored 14 in the first innings and he was out on 43 in India's second essay today.

The 37-year-old is third in the all-time list behind top-placed Indian icon Sachin Tendulkar (14,422) and Australian captain Ricky Ponting (12,333).

During India's first innings, Dravid had become the third highest Test run-getter, surpassing former West Indian captain Brian Lara (11,953).

Dravid, who is playing in his 148th Test, has scored 31 centuries and 59 half centuries and averages 53.31.
