However, it was a heartbreak for South Africa as they finish third despite having eight points due to a lower Net Run Rate than both, England and Australia. Rassie van der Dussen (94) and Aiden Markram (52) were key for the Proteas as they finished on a strong 189/2. In the chase, England lost Jason Roy early due to a seeming leg injury before Jos Buttler (26), Moeen Ali (37), Dawid Malan (33) and Liam Livingstone (28) all made important contributions but Rabada's hat-trick in the final over sealed South Africa's win.
