Last week, the Indian side played a three-day warm-up game against County Select XI. Meanwhile, on Thursday, the Indian bowlers sweated it out in the nets in Durham. The BCCI took to Twitter and shared pictures of the training session.
“#TeamIndia bowlers having a go at in the nets ahead of the #ENGvIND Test series,” BCCI tweeted.
During the warm-up fixture, Rahul had donned the wicketkeeping gloves because Rishabh Pant and Wriddhiman Saha were unavailable due to the Covid-19 protocols.
On the other hand, Avesh Khan and Washington Sundar were ruled out after picking up injuries. Avesh had suffered a blow on the thumb of his left leg while Sundar fractured his right-hand bowling finger. Opener Shubman Gill was also ruled out of the five-match Test series due to a stress injury on his leg, that he suffered in the World Test Championship final.
The BCCI has announced that batsmen Prithvi Shaw and Suryakuamr Yadav will fly to England as replacements. However, their availability is uncertain as both of them are in isolation in Colombo. They have been identified as two of the 8 close contacts to all-rounder Krunal Pandya who tested positive on Tuesday.
Pant has recovered from Covid-19 with two negative RT-PCR tests. He has also begun his preparations for the upcoming Test series after clearance from the BCCI Medical Team.
