India vs England Highlights, 3rd ODI: India's top order did really well with Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli scoring 138, 77 and 74 respectively. But the rest of the batsmen disappointed. Sam Curran was the destroyer-in-chief for England as he picked up four wickets. Chasing 388 to win, India fell short by 27 runs and thus they lost the three-game rubber 2-1 at the iconic Lord's. The match turned out to be a great outing for Rohit Sharma who kind of boosted his dwindling career with this innings. A few days ago there was talk of his retirement which he has now put to bed. Kohli also got his second successive fifty of the series. Though the veteran players would have loved India to win the series. Jacob Bethell has been chosen Man of the Match for his 91 and 1/49. Don't forget Ben Duckett (141) played a blinder of an innings in this game....Read More
One sweep shot too many! Rohit picked up a six off Jacob Bethell but then went for another sweep but got castled in the process. His innings of 138 off 110 balls comes to end. A great innings nonetheless. India have a chance to win this game now.
Rohit Sharma becomes the first Indian to score an ODI century at the iconic Lord's. He takes just 84 balls to reach his 34th ton in the format. What an innings by the former Indian captain. Match on!
Shubman Gill finally departs for 77 off 84 balls. Big blow to India. The team needed a lot more from him. Anyway, Virat Kohli joins his old friend Rohit Sharma at the crease. Both playing their final innings in England for sure. A few overs ago, Shubman Gill started cramping up and that may have played a role in his departure. Went for a slog sweep, missed the ball. Reviews it and it gets turned down.
At the end of 15 overs, India are 89/0. Both Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill are looking good. The start was really slow though, particularly in the first five overs. The pitch is playing nicely. India have raised hopes not a little. Fifty for Shubman Gill in the 15th over bowled by spinner Adil Rashid.
England finish on 387/3 in the series decider at Lord's. Huge, huge score. Jos Buttler (41 not out off 13 balls) was particularly damaging in the death overs. Root also played a solid hand of 74 not out off 48 balls. Both added 63 off just 19 balls. Can India chase it down? They haven't chased down such a big score before. Gurnoor Brar finished with figures of 0/97. Prasidh Krishna took two wickets for India. For Engalnd, Ben Duckett top-scored with 141. Jacob Bethell also scored a solid 91.
Ben Duckett's ton came off 108 balls. His fifty was a bit slow but the next fifty was quite attractive. He really played some great shots. The four that took him to his century was quite disdainfully hit off the bowling of Gurnoor Brar. From here, England should score upwards of 325. Joe Root, at the other end, is also looking ominous.
India finally succeeds, gets rid of Jacob Bethell for 91 off 93 balls, thanks to Prasidh Krishna in the 31st over. But India need to take more wickets to get back into the contest. At present, they are really trailing. Rohit Sharma takes the catch at mid-wicket. The shot wasn't bad, just that Bethell found the fielder.
End of 16 overs. England 101/0. Indian bowlers have bowled really bad today. At this rate, a 300 plus score awaits them, which won't be easy to chase on this bowling-friendly wicket. This match shows how important Jasprit Bumrah is to the Indian team. In his absence, the bowling looks absolutely toothless. Fifty for Jacob Bethell.
England have won the toss and decided to have a bat in the final one-day match of the series at Lord's. India are going in without Jasprit Bumrah. A knee injury has ruled him out. Shivam Dube has been dropped. Prince Yadav and Arshdeep Singh come in. KL returns from illness too. Kuldeep Yadav continues to warm the bench. Seems like the team management has no faith in him.
With the series level at 1-1, India face England in the third and final ODI on Sunday at Lord's in London. The last couple of days has only been about Rohit Sharma's ODI future and rumours of retirement. Meanwhile, the BCCI has had to publicly state that no such discussion has taken place. The third and final ODI will see four modern greats take to the field and once again remind fans of their importance. Joe Root's match-winning 99* in Cardiff was the defining innings of this series. Kohli has managed a half-century and has looked good at the crease. Buttler showed his domination in the T20I series. Unlike Kohli, Root and Buttler, Rohit has been facing criticism due to his poor returns. He will be hoping to silence his critics on Sunday.
Speaking ahead of the match, England captain Harry Brook hailed Joe Root. "Root has been such a good player for so many years and it's awesome to have him on the side. We probably have depended on him quite a little bit in recent times in ODI cricket and Test cricket. Hopefully, the boys can learn from what he's doing, myself included, and realise how easy he's making batting look, to be able to just rotate the strike. If we can add a little bit of Joe Root into our batting as a collective team, then we'll definitely be in some strong positions," he said.
