It was a busy day for the debutant as Pant took the catches of Alaistair Cook, Keaton Jennings, Ollie Pope, Chris Woakes and Adil Rashid.

He was assisted mainly by all-rounder Hardik Pandya who picked up his first five-wicket haul to bundle out England for just 161 in the first innings.

Pant joined an illustrious list of keepers which includes Naren Tamhane (against Pakistan in 1955), Kiran More (against England in 1986) and Naman Ojha (against Sri Lanka in Colombo).

The 20-year old became the first Indian cricketer and 12th overall to open his account in Test cricket with a six as he slammed Adil Rashid for a maximum.
