Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) president Lalit Modi rubbished allegations of misappropriating funds levelled against him by RCA member Anil Shekhawat on Wednesday.
Reacting to a police complaint filed by Shekhawat, Modi said: “It is a frivolous allegation and is not based on facts at all.”
In his complaint, Shekhawat had alleged that Modi misused BCCI funds to the tune of Rs 22 lakh, out of the amount granted to the Rajasthan Cricket Association for the year 2007-08.
He further accused Modi of spending Rs 6,83,41,048 from the RCA coffers on travel expenses for his family and friends.
Quashing all allegations as baseless, Modi said: “I do not charge even TA and DA during my official visits. My family travels with me during tours and all expenses are borne by me.”
The RCA president maintained he never went beyond his legitimate expenses and said: “Anyone can have a look at the accounts of the RCA.”
Regarding the proposed meeting of the RCA executive on January 28, Modi said: “I have convened the meeting to discuss a methodology to hold elections as the term of the existing body is about to expire on March 31.”
Detailing the agenda, the he said: “Several cases are pending in the courts and the executive needs to discuss the strategy to deal with them.”
The Rajasthan Cricket Association president hoped the RCA would continue to get political patronage: “We got support from the previous BJP government, and hope to get similar help from the present Gehlot government as the association is engaged in the promotion of cricket.”
