WPL 2024, RCB vs DC Highlights: Shafali Varma and Alice Capsey helped Delhi Capitals (DC) dominate the first 10 overs after Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) won the toss and chose to bowl first. Meg Lanning fell early but Capsey and Shafali then put on 82 runs for the second wicket off just 43 balls. Shafali reached her half-century off just 30 balls with back to back sixes but fell off the very next ball after that. Capsey has been going big guns ever she came into the middle.

RCB clawed their way back somewhat in the second half of the innings though. Capsey missed out on a half-century , falling on 46 off 33 to Nadine de Klerk. Marizanne Kapp and Jess Jonassen then continue the onslaught for DC as they try to get as close to 200 as possible. Kapp fell on 32 off 16 while Jonassen finished unbeaten on 36 off 16 balls. DC ended up smashing 70 runs in the last five overs and ended up with a score of 194/5.

In reply, the home team got off to a superb start with Smriti Mandhana hammering DC bowlers all over the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The skipper’s fireworks helped her score 74 off 43 – the second highest score of this edition yet. Mandhana was assisted by Devine (23 off 17) as the openers put together 77.

Devine got out to a full toss but Mandhana kept the run rate up with 10 boundaries and three huge sixes. But the run rate dropped after Mandhana was bowled by Kapp (2/35) on the final ball of the 12th over. The required rate as well as the pressure augmented thereon. Richa Ghosh tried going for the big shots but Sabbhineni Meghana scoring at run-a-ball let the asking rate go above 12. Kapp picked up her second wicket when Ghosh (19 off 13) miscued while going for a big shot.

Shikha Pandey (1/27) and Jonassen (3/21) kept the batters in check maintaining good line and length, delivering many dot balls as Meghana (36 off 31) and Georgia Wareham (6 off 7) failed to accelerate as RCB couldn’t clear the ropes from the 16th to the 18th over. Meghana was put down by Reddy on 24 but could not take RCB to the target as she was run out as RCB lost four more wickets in the last two overs to go down for the first time in this edition of the WPL.Stadium. RCB had a forgettable Women's Premier League (WPL) last season but seem to have put that behind them this year. They won their first match against UP Warriorz by two runs and then thrashed Gujarat Giants by eight wickets in their second, which means they are the only side to remain unbeaten this year after playing two games. They would be looking to continue this run but face a significant challenge on Thursday in the form of the Delhi Capitals.

The star names have fired for both teams in their respective previous games, with Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning striking half-centuries against Warriorz while Smriti Mandhana, S Meghana and Ellyse Perry got amongst the runs against Gujarat Giants. Concerns, if any, will be Sophie Devine's recent form as she fell for single digit scores in the last two games and hasn't really been in the best touch with the bat barring the 70 she scored in the ODI against Pakistan in December. RCB made no changes to their playing eleven in their previous match and are expected to do the same, unless there are any last-minute injuries. The same can be said for Lanning's DC.
