SC to examine board plea on Srinivasan, Dhoni statements

The Supreme Court on Friday said it will examine the BCCI’s plea seeking the statements made by N Srinivasan and India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni to the Mudgal panel, which is investigating the IPL betting and fixing scandal, on April 16.

However, the Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB), which questioned the Board’s right to seek transcripts of the statements, opposed the plea. Senior advocate Ajeet Sinha, appearing for CAB, submitted that the BCCI cannot seek copies of the transcripts on behalf of Srinivasan and Dhoni.

He submitted that if the transcripts are supplied to the BCCI, then they should also be given to CAB.

BCCI counsel, CA Sundaram, said it would be difficult for him to respond in the matter without examining the transcripts.

The Board also sought to hear the deposition of the chief operating officer of IPL, Sundar Raman.

A Bench comprising Justice AK Patnaik and Justice JS Khehar posted the matter for April 16.

Earlier, senior advocate, Harish Salve, who represents CAB secretary, Aditya Verma, had accused Dhoni of lying about the role of Srinivasan’s son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan in the Chennai Super Kings’ setup.
