SRH vs MI, IPL 2023 Highlights: Green's all-round act leads Mumbai to 14-run win over Sunrisers

Second ball of the 10th from Markande, Ishan Kishan reverse sweeps powerfully and the ball lands just in front of the cushion for a four. The third umpire has some fun with a number of replays before declaring something that was obvious in the first replay itself, that it wasn't a six. Then Ishan absolutely pummels the next ball down the ground. The ball fizzes past the terrified umpire and races to the boundary.

Had to happen at some point. It had been 18 balls since the last boundary and Cam Green steps out to Sundar off the last ball of the 9th and sends him soaring over long-on. He moves to 15 off 14, MI 69/1 in 9 overs.

Ishan Kishan on 21 off 14 balls, Cameron Gree on three off four. THis has been a good powerplay for MI, although Rohit would surely like one these quickfire innings of his to last longer than the first five overs.

Ishan Kishan picks the length early and SRH left to pick the pieces. He pulls the fifth ball of the sixth bowled by Bhuvi over midwicket.

Rohit looking to flick it to the leg side but gets a leading edge. The ball balloons to mid-off where captain Aiden Markram takes an easy catch. Markram had a word with Natarajan before this ball after the previous went for a four. Whatever he said seems to have worked.

Rohit brings out the ramp from well outside off. The ball races away to the leg side and smashes the boundary.

Ishan is on 12 off 10 balls, Rohit on 20 off 14. This has been quite a breackneck start from the two openers.

Rohit Sharma quite lucky to not sustain a serious injury there. Ishan had hit Jansen for a four off the third ball of the fourth and then crashed him down the ground for what looked like an assured second consecutive boundary, Only this time, it was headed straight for his captain at the non striker's end. The ball hits the top of the pad and so Rohit is not hurt. He walks around with a big smile on his face. 

Rohit Sharma toying with the field and he goes past 6000 IPL runs in the process. Rohit first sweeps Washington Sundar, then he pulls the next one that his short over deep midwicket and then the MI captain cuts it between point and cover-point.

Full blooded hook from Ishan Kishan but he top edges. However, this ground is not big enough to hold those in and it flies past the boundary.

Right the players are out there. Ishan Kishan opening with Rohit Sharma, who used to call this place home many years ago while playing for the Deccan Chargers. Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowling the first over. 

Somewhat strange that SRH have chosen not to use Umran Malik despite bowling first. Arjun Tendulkar gets to stay in the team, he did perform pretty well in the last game and so this is no surprise.

“It's been fantastic, 15 years IPL has come off a long way. Has gone from strength to strength. Lots of good things have happened in 15 years. We have to play good cricket. We do understand the challenges of posting a total. We've to assess the conditions. Duan misses out and Jason Behrendorff comes in place of him. Jason was always supposed to play, but he was not well last game. He's okay to go now.”

"We are gonna bowl first. Wicket Wicket looks slightly drier, hopefully it gets better with the dew. Not in the 16 (no changes). We'll see how conditions play and adjust from there. Our fielding needs to improve. We are improving game by game. It's about guys exploring options and trusting them."

Aiden Markram wins the toss and Sunrisers Hyderabad will bowl first. 

"Proud moment for my family. To see my brother in IPL was a pleasing thing to see. It would be 50-50. Everyone wants us to do well. For me bowling wise, trying to hit the right lengths. If it swings try and capitalize. And execute my plans. Learning to play under pressure situations. Lot f things come into play. Trying to learn how to deal with pressure."

"There's a slight bias to the ground. To my right, 63 metres (square boundary), that's not a big hit, players can muscle that. A little bit bigger to my left - 68 metres. Down the ground about 73 metres. The outfield is pristine, it's absolutely beautiful. The surface is interesting. It's a light colour, very grey colour. The grass that was there is cut very very low. I'm just wondering ... the ball feels as though it'll come on to the bat on this but because the grass is cut so low, I'm not sure. I don't know if it'll grip a little bit for the slowmen. But it looks beautiful. If later in the game, dew comes in, it'll slide on nicely. From a batting perspective, you come out here and you'll enjoy seeing this."

There is no doubt about the fact that Jofra Archer will slot right back into the team if he is fit to play. MI will have to consider who to drop in that case. Either of the two debutants from last match, Jansen or Tendulkar, could end up on the bench to fit in Archer.  

Arjun Tendulkar got his debut in MI's previous match against KKR. Unlike his relatively well known father (note the sarcasm please), Arjun's first skill is fast bowling and, once again unlike his father, he has the height to go with it. He didn't take any wickets but gave just 17 runs away in his first two overs. Wonder if MI will stick with him today.

If you were slightly confused as to how in the world Jansen is playing for MI when he clearly turned out for SRH just a few days ago, stop scratching your head. For this was Duan Jansen, Marco's evil twin!! Well, Duan's probably a perfectly normal chum and not evil at all but he and Marco have the same faces, being identical twins and all. MI gave Duan his IPL debut in their previous match, just as they did for Marco in the 2021 season. While Marco is now already recognised as South Africa's most potent weapon accross formats, Duan is yet to reach those heights but hey, he is only 22 and has many, many years left in his career. Today, the brothers are up against each other. 

Ishan Kishan has had all kinds of issues against left-arm seam and the same can be said for almost any Indian batter, including Rohit Sharma. SRH have two fantastic exponents in Marco Jansen and T Natarajan and so it is likely that these two will bowl in the powerplay. 

Jofra Archer had only recently returned after a long, long time away from cricket due to various injuries and he played for MI in their first match of the season against RCB. But he has not been since, with Mark Boucher initially saying that he had been left out as a precautionary measure in their second match against CSK. This is what he had to say most recently about the England fast bowler. "Jofra is still recovering a bit. It's getting him ready for more couple of games to come. Jof is obviously a massive part of the MI setup. Not having him in the field is certainly not a great thing for us. The medical team is working really hard with him and getting him ready," Boucher said.
