Tendulkar shares classy message for Jaiswal, Gill; Yuvraj grabs Smith’s attention after India captain achieves rare feat
Sachin Tendulkar was highly impressed with Jaiswal and Gill's impressive batting performance on Day 1 of the Edgbaston Test.
Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, the young guns, once again raised their hands and took the responsibility with the bat in the second Test against England at Edgbaston. The transition period in the Indian Test batting looked smooth so far with Jaiswal taking charge as opener while Gill filling the big shoes of Virat Kohli at number 4. The unexpected retirements of Rohit Sharma and Kohli initially left a void in India's batting line-up, raising concerns over stability and experience. However, the transition has been fairly steady so far, with the new-look batting order showing promising signs and stepping up to the challenge in the early phase of this new era.

Skipper Shubman continued his sublime form with the bat and scored a brilliant century at Edgbaston to kickstart his captaincy era with tons in back-to-back matches. Jaiswal once again set up the foundation at the top with an 87-run knock.
Batting great Sachin Tendulkar was highly impressed with Jaiswal and Gill's impressive batting performance on Day 1 of the Edgbaston Test, which helped rescue India from a tricky position.
".@ybj_19 set the tone from ball one. He was positive, fearless and smartly aggressive. @ShubmanGill was cool as ever, calm under pressure, solid in defence and in total control. Classy knocks from both. Well played, boys!" Tendulkar wrote on X.
Gill’s unbeaten 114 formed the backbone of India’s strong total of 310/5 at stumps on Day 1 of the second Test, while Yashasvi Jaiswal chipped in with a flamboyant 87 to give the visitors a solid platform.
The Indian skipper took the onus on himself and showed great composure while scoring his 7th Test century where looked in complete control while taking India forward in the game.

“When responsibility calls, some rise and some soar”
His stellar innings drew praise from mentor Yuvraj Singh, who lauded Gill for stepping up when it mattered most and applauded him for joining the elite club of captains to score back-to-back Test centuries.
"When responsibility calls, some rise and some soar! @ShubmanGill just became one of the rare few to score consecutive hundreds as Test captain! A calm head, a bold bat and a hunger to lead by example @GraemeSmith49 would be proud of the company! #IndiaVSEng," Yuvraj wrote on X.
Meanwhile, Shubman has a big task cut out on Day 2 to help India get past 450 and convert his century into a daddy knock to put pressure on England, who opted to bowl first. With Jasprit Bumrah rested for the match as part of workload management, India will be aiming to post a sizeable total to give their bowlers a much-needed cushion.
