Two suspected Maoists have been arrested from US Nagar district, police said on Monday.
Acting on a tip-off, teams from Sitarganj and Nanakmatta police stations, headed by circle officer Himanshu Shah, nabbed the Maoists from a mango orchard at Anandpur, Kichha on Sunday, senior superintendent of police US Nagar Sadanand Date said at a press conference.
They were identified as Ramesh Bhatt alias Manish master, a resident of Dumka Bangar under Lalkuan police station in Nainital district and Manoj Kumar Singh alias Arvind, a resident of Chandoli district in Uttar Pradesh.
Prohibited Maoists literature and pamphlets were recovered from their possession, he said. One of them was wanted in connection with a 14-year-old case registered in Nanakmatta.
Date said Ramesh was wanted for a cases registered in US Nagar in 2004 and 2007 and had a reward of ₹10,000 on his head.
During questioning, they admitted that they were active members of zonal committee of the outlawed group.
“Ramesh and Manoj also took part of Maoist camp of Saufutia Hanspur Khatta under Chaurgalia police station in Nainital organised in 2003-04 and managed to escape during police raid during that period. A case had been registered against them with Nanakmatta police station,” Date said.
Date said both of them were also actively involved in Naxal attack in Madhubani district of Bihar in 2005.

{{/usCountry}}During this period, Maoists attacked nine police stations and a member of parliament’s residence under ‘Operation Dhamaka’.
Ramesh played a vital role in the attacked on the MP’s residence and wanted by Bihar Police for ‘Operation Dhamaka’.
Date said, “After Operation Dhamaka, they were also participated in meetings of zonal committee of the outfit held in Balia and Farrukhabad of Uttar Pradesh as active member.
“Both of them were entrusted the responsibility for promoting Maoists ideology and provoking the workers of unorganised sector in Uttarakhand.”
The police officer claimed police have been successful in demolishing the network in Terai area.
