Five people were arrested from the state capital in separate drug related cases and 2.6 kg charas and 20 gram smack seized from their possession, police said on Tuesday.
The arrested people were booked under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
In the first case, Narendra Chetri, 28, a resident of Chakrata, was arrested with 1 kg charas in Jamnagar area. On being quizzed, he told police that owing to his poor economic condition, he used to sell the contraband to make quick money.
Police said Chetri also told them that he used to buy charas from Chakrata at a low price and sell it to students at a higher price in Sahaspur and other areas of the capital city.
Police, in a statement, said they got “vital information” about other drug smugglers and will soon act against them.
Sub-inspector Preet Gwadi, who is investigating the case, said Chettri was arrested during a random checking and presented before a court on Tuesday.
In the second case, Amjad, a resident of Rampur, was arrested with 550 gram charas from Sahaspur during a random checking.
Sub-inspector Satendra Bhandari said: “During questioning, we found that he used to purchase charas from Mirjapur and sell it among youth here.”
In the third case, Divesh Singh and Abhinav Malik, residents of Uttar Pradesh’s Mujaffarnagar, were held with 510 gram charas and 15 gram smack, respectively.
Divesh was arrested from Panditwadri while Abinav from IHM Gate, Nimbuwala. Police also seized Abhinav’s motorcycle that was being used to smuggle the banned substance.
