About 500 cops, including 40 ATS commandos, will be deployed at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium here to provide security during the upcoming T20 series between Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
Afghanistan will host Bangladesh in Dehradun for the three-match series on June 3, 5 and 7.
The organisers are expecting a crowd of at least 10,000 in the stadium that has a capacity of 25,000.
Additional director general of police (law & order) Ashok Kumar said besides police, security personnel to be deployed for the matches would be from provincial armed constabulary, anti-terrorist squad (ATS) and intelligence wing.
“The security would be a water-tight one for the series to avoid any untoward incident,” said Kumar.
On Monday, a five-member delegation of International Cricket Council met Uttarakhand police chief to assess security arrangements for the series.
An official of Afghanistan Cricket Board separately met police officials to discuss the security arrangements.
Another senior police official involved in looking after the security arrangements said: “The organisers are claiming that about 10,000-15,000 people would come to stadium to enjoy the matches which we think is a bit exaggerated figure as India is not playing.”
“We are expecting a crowd of not more than 4,500 but will make the security arrangements according to a packed stadium to leave no stone unturned. However, we may reassess the security arrangements after the first match based on the crowd response,” the official said on condition of anonymity.
