The meeting was attended by UKD president Kashi Singh Aeri, former cabinet minister Diwakar Bhatt, former MLA Pushpesh Tripathi, Dwarika Prasad Uniyal and Jai Prakash Uttarakhandi.

In the meeting held at Juyal’s home here on Sunday, the leaders agreed to unite under the banner of Uttarakhand Kranti Dal and set aside their differences.

Former cabinet leader Diwakar Bhatt said that unification of the party was in the interest of the people of the state as the UKD had always strived on regional issues.

Tripathi also supported the unification. Talking to HT, Juyal said that “it was decided that the constitution of the party would be changed so as to avoid any dissension and one upmanship in the future”.

This apart, a model code of conduct would be developed for the UKD leaders so that they do not indulge in anti-party activities. President of UKD(P) Panwar, who did not attend the meeting, said that they do not support such moves. “These people have already been expelled by the party and are now talking about unity,” said Panwar.

The UKD, which was formed in 1979, has since split into various factions on account of infighting. The party has seen the decline from four assembly seats to just one at present.
