A 17-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide by hanging self from a ceiling fan of his house in Dalanwalla area here on Sunday after failure in CBSE class 12 examinations, police said.

The boy, who hails from Saharanpur, was living at a rented accommodation in Dalanwalla to prepare for National Defence Academy (NDA) entrance examination.
Dalanwalla circle officer Jaya Balooni said the deceased was identified as Prashant Kumar, who had come to Dehradun two months ago.
“After appearing in CBSE class 12 examination, he got himself enrolled in a city-based coaching institute for NDA entrance preparation. His father is a subedar in the Indian Army. When the CBSE results were declared on Saturday, he came to know that he failed in securing the pass marks. On informing his father, he was asked to return home by Sunday morning, which depressed him,” said Balooni.
“Kumar used to have his meals at his landlord’s house, who lived on the ground floor. On Saturday at 9 pm, he last spoke to his landlord and refused to have dinner. Later on Sunday, when his landlord went to check on him, he was found hanging from the ceiling fan,” Balloni said.
After receiving information, police reached the spot and initiated the investigations. “No suicide note was found from the spot and investigations are on,” said Balooni.
