Chief minister Harish Rawat on Saturday expressed his desire to develop an integrated cluster of golf courses in Uttarakhand to promote the game and boost tourism. He said the government would provide all help to develop a new golf course in the state.

The chief minister said this at the inaugural session of the second SARA Governor’s Golf Cup which was formally inaugurated by him at Forest Research Institute-Indian Military Academy golf course in the presence of players who have come from several north Indian states. Six of the country’s top 20 amateur golfers of Indian Golf Union are playing in the tournament.

“We must try to develop a cluster of golf courses across the state. Nainital, Dehradun, Harsil and Haridwar could be among the preferred destinations for golfing. These places are also tourist destinations. We must promote these places as future destinations for golfers from across the country,” he said.

Rawat said that developing golf course will promote tourism in the state. Similar views were echoed by state tourism minister Dinesh Aggarwal at the the function. Aggarwal thanked the IMA for developing a beautiful golf course in the state capital.
