The meeting lasted for about 90 minutes. Singh said the “spiritual” meeting with Shankaracharya has nothing to do with the politics.

Singh reached the ashram with Congress veteran Acharya Pramod Krishnam. Singh said he is going to start a spiritual sojourn in the next few days from Madhya Pradesh.“ And, it will not be held under the banner of the Congress or any religious banner.”

The Congress general secretary said the ‘Narmada Yatra’ will commence from September 30 and will end early next year.

Political corridors were abuzz with the “unexpected” meeting of Singh with Shankaracharya. The leaders from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its mentor Rastriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) swayamsewaks are regular visitors of Shankaracharya.

According to sources, Singh’s meeting was well planned and it was aimed at striking a right chord with the saint community before the next general elections in 2019.
