At least two Dehradun residents have so far tested positive for dengue, as reported by a private hospital. This has caused a scare in the city. Local corporators have asked the civic body to step up measures to curb growth of disease-causing vectors.

Rajkumar Kakkar, corporator of ward Rest Camp said the civic body failed to take preventive measures, especially in the areas where there is water stagnation. The DMC also did not carry out fogging and other anti-mosquito measures in such places, he said.

Indiranagar corporator Meera Kathait said since the matter concerns public health, the DMC should act immediately and undertake requisite measures especially in the vulnerable pockets of the city. However, Dr RK Singh, senior health officer of the DMC said the civic body was keeping a close eye on the situation.

Dehradun city mayor Vinod Chamoli too, expressed concern over reports of dengue scare in the city and asked DMC officials to take adequate measures to keep the virus in check.

“I have given instructions to my staff to immediately intensify the process of fogging and cover as many wards as possible,” he said. Earlier this year, the state health department had issued directions to all municipal bodies to step up fogging and sanitation drive in their respective areas as preventive measures against dengue.
