After rap from the Uttarakhand high court over slow pace of works, authorities on Sunday said four-laning of Rampur-Kathgodam highway will be completed within two years.
The national highway number 87 stretches from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh to Jeolikote in Nainital district and is called as the Rampur-Kathgodam highway.
Work is going on for the four-laning of 93 km area of the highway. This highway will further extends through the NH 87 E from Ranikhet to Karnprayag.
The high court in Nainital has directed that four-laning should be completed within 2 years from now after taking strict note of the slow pace of works.
On February 9, 2016, union road transport minister Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation of this project in Rampur.
The project was earlier held up due to issues related to environment as a large number of trees had to be cut. Later, anti-encroachment drives were held at Nagla Bypass and Lalkuan for the widening of the road that led to demonstrations.
Nainital district magistrate Deependra Chaudhary said they were making all efforts for speeding up works on their stretch of the national highway.
“There are issues related to compensation of farmers whose lands have been acquired for this project,” he said.

{{/usCountry}}Besides, he said an elevated road has to be built at Nagla Bypass for facilitating movement for elephants and the matter is being finalised.
