Pocket police: Now a mobile app to fight crime and verify tenants in U’khand

The application is expected to help people in distress file complaints and identify criminals besides verifying tenants

The Uttarakhand police have launched a mobile phone app to help people in distress, file complaints and identify criminals besides verifying tenants.

Launching the Android-based application on Saturday, chief minister Harish Rawat said using their smartphones, residents will be able to file certain police reports, get safety alerts, locate police stations, file traffic complaints and receive notifications from police social media accounts among other features.

“The app is in sync with our initiative of e-governance and endeavour to promote technology in the state,” he said.

Director general of police BS Sidhu said that the app was developed six months back and was being tested to make it more user-friendly and to remove the unwanted “bugs”.

“The app titled “Uttarakhand Police App” has been developed by Dehradun-based WTIT Solutions, is being launched in the Garhwal division first and later on it would be extended to the rest of the state,” he said.

Aakash Sharma, who developed the app, said the public utility app with a host of user-friendly facilities would help in cutting out the time-consuming process of filing complaints and paperwork. “Photos of wanted criminals can be listed on the app, which would help in tracking them,” he said.

He said that details of a lost mobile can also be uploaded on the app and the receipt generated can be used to procure a new SIM.
