Reconstructing Kedarpuri: Big B’s show on foreign shores to shore up funds

DEHRDUN: Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan will soon host a mega show abroad, to raise funds to reconstruct the shrine town of Kedarnath, which was ravaged by the cataclysmic floods that hit Uttarakhand’s fabled Chardham in 2013, said chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on the sidelines of a Janata Darbar in Rudraprayag on Friday.

“It is being built on the site of Old Kedarpuri town, which was washed away in the massive 2013 floods some four years ago,” said District Magistrate of Rudraprayag Mangesh Ghildiyal.

Ghildiyal said around 40 houses in the flood hit Old Kedarpuri township had been reconstructed and would be handed over to their owners by December. “The rest of the 73 houses are currently being rebuilt,” he said adding that their reconstruction is being undertaken by Jindal Group under the Corporate Social Responsibility. He said that the construction of a three-tier flood protection wall from the side of Chaurabari Lake that burst during the downpour in mid-June 2013 washing away Old Kedarpuri, had been completed.
