In a move aimed to uplift the poor, the Uttarakhand government will soon introduce a ‘transparent system’ under which all scholarships meant for the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Caste students, will be directly transferred into their bank accounts, an official revealed.
“Under that system, pensions meant for the poor sections of society will also be directly transferred online to their bank accounts,” rural development additional secretary Ram Bilas Yadav said. “Besides, all details pertaining to the online transfer of money to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts will also be instantly uploaded on the official website of the central government.”
The purpose of the scheme was to ensure transparency, which would also uplift the weaker sections of society, Yadav said, adding that the online system of distribution of scholarship was meant for the SC, ST and OBC students enrolled in state run schools. “The scheme will benefit all such students studying in classes 1 to 12,” he said, adding more such students would now be able to avail the scholarship scheme. “It will be possible following the state government’s decision to provide that facility to the SC, ST, OBC students whose guardians’ per annum income is up to Rs 5.5 lakh,” Yadav said. “Earlier, it was meant only for those students whose parents’ per annum income was not beyond Rs 2.5 lakh,” Yadav said.
The official said that the state government had also approved a scheme under which the candidates belonging to the SC, ST and OBC groups preparing for the competitive examinations for various services would be able to avail free coaching facility. “In that connection, reputed coaching institutes would be empanelled by the state government,” he said, adding that fees would be transferred online into the bank accounts of those coaching institutes. “Under that scheme, free coaching will also be given to the SC, ST and OBC candidates preparing for competitive examinations for civil services and similar other elite services.”
