The Congress will launch an exercise to seek feedback from party workers on the electoral prospects and assess its organisational strength ahead of the 2017 assembly elections, said state Congress chief Kishor Upadhay on Friday.
Addressing media persons here, Upadhay said the party will also hold a booth-level workers’ meet to be addressed by Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi. “The assembly segment workers’ meet to assess organisational strength will begin immediately after the state budget session that ends on April 15,” he said.
The meet will be attended by chief minister Harish Rawat, former chief ministers, former state Congress chiefs, sitting and former MLAs, members of parliament and assembly constituencies’ nominees who lost elections along with district Congress chiefs, he said.
“Two assembly segments will be covered every day during the meet to assess the organisational strength of the party at the grassroot level. It will help in deciding the future course of action for the 2017 assembly election,” he said.
“This will be a leg work to prepare for interaction of booth level party office bearers with party vice president Rahul Gandhi during the two-day convention to be held in Haridwar after April 15.”

{{/usCountry}}Upadhay hinted that the workers’ meet would be aimed at making a preliminary assessment of names of prospective nominees for the assembly segments.
After the workers’ meet and the polling booth committee heads’ interaction with the Congress vice president, the party will hold a series of meetings of with district unit office- bearers and public representatives to assess poll prospects.
“This will be followed by another series of meetings of the party’s front organisations in different parts of the state followed by a 11-day camp for 1,100 Congress Seva Dal workers,” he said.
“By September end we aim to create more than a 3 lakh-strong force of party workers who will look after preparations for the 2017 elections.”
