Brazilian arrested at airport with Rs 3.1 crore of cocaine

The man had swallowed the capsules in order to escape customs checking at the airport.

A Brazilian man was arrested from the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on Thursday for allegedly trying to smuggle 64 capsules of cocaine worth around Rs 3.1 crore into the country. Officials said that the man had swallowed the capsules in order to escape customs checking at the airport.

Custom officials did not disclose the name of the passenger saying they were probing his network.

Officers from the Delhi customs said that the passenger was intercepted after his arrival from Sao Paulo, via Addis Ababa, on August 27, following a tip off. A medical examination revealed he had swallowed 64 capsules containing 620 grams of a white-coloured powder, the officers said.

The capsules were then taken out of the passenger’s body. A drug test ascertained the powder as cocaine, the officials said, following which the passenger was arrested and the cocaine seized.
