Can’t ‘micro monitor’ mosquito breeding in Delhi, says Manish Sisodia

Speaking at a function by the apex body of Delhi’s RWAs the deputy chief minister sought cooperation of resident bodies to keep a tab of waterlogging in the capital.

Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday said that government agencies cannot “micro monitor” breeding of mosquito across the city. Speaking at a function held by Urja, the apex body of all Resident Welfare Associations in Delhi, the Deputy chief minister sought support from people and urged residents to keep a watch on accumulation of water in their area.

“Government and civic bodies can’t micro monitor dengue mosquitoes in the city. It is not possible. They are most active in August and September — the monsoon months. We need support and cooperation from citizens of Delhi,” he said.

At least 225 cases of malaria and 150 dengue cases have been reported from across the city. Also 120 cases of chikungunya were reported this year. MCD officials said the peak season for dengue, mosquito and chikungunya mosquito breeding is at the peak between July and September.

MCD officials said that this year, cases of vector borne diseases are being reported earlier in comparisons to previous years. This year, hospitals started recording cases from April onwards.

An MCD official said that WhatsApp groups have been started across all the three civic agencies, where MCD officials have to share reports of the places they visited to check for breeding centres and prevent out break of the disease.
