Delhi: Member of vigilante group that promised ‘crime-free society’ held; cars, bikes seized

The group said they fight gainst corrupt doctors, molesters,rapists, gamblers, anti-nationals and those with black money.

Police on Friday arrested a member of a so-called ‘vigilante group’ that promised a ‘crime-free society’ by eliminating criminals.

The group had gunned down a 32-year-old businessman in Dwarka’s sector 22 last week and then a day after, they shot dead a man in Kanjhawla after his bike brushed against their car.

After the murders, the men left notes that mentioned “long live revolution”. According to the notes, the group fights against corrupt doctors, molesters,rapists, gamblers, anti-nationals and those with black money.

After raids, the police finally arrested Aman, who was found to be a sharpshooter and member of the Rajesh Bharti gang. Seven others are on the run.

“They are all extortionists. They do not even know the meaning of kranti (revolution). They have over seven to eight cases of murder, attempt to murder, car jacking and extortion registered against them. Their car was also a robbed one. We arrested one of them,” DCP southwest, Surendra Kumar said.

The police recovered a robbed Fortuner car, a Verna car used in the Kanjhawla murder and a robbed motorcycle.

“We deployed secret informers, collected criminal intelligence, collected information on certain active groups and started tracking their movements. Their suspected hideouts in and around Delhi were raided,” Kumar said.

On July 20, secret information was received that one of the gang members, Aman Khadkhadi, would go to his village to commit more murders.

“The team laid a trap near the place of information and apprehended him,” Kumar said.

Aman told the police that he was fond of Bollywood movies and always aspired to be a gangster, like the characters in Khalnayak and Vastav. He told the police that Sanjay Dutt was his idol.

“He started committing crimes at the age of 17 and murdered one Rajender Singh of his village. He eventually became part of this gang,” Kumar said.

Investigation is in progress and efforts are being made to arrest his associates.
