Delhi teen dies after fall from Shahdara flyover, police do not rule out suicide or foul play

A 15-year-old boy died after falling from the Shahdara Flyover in east Delhi, police said on Thursday.

While the police said prima facie it appeared to be a case of suicide, they had not ruled out foul play until late on Thursday.

“A couple of eyewitnesses have come forward to claim that they saw the boy park his bicycle along the flyover wall near Mansarovar Park metro station, climb over the railing and jump,” said deputy commissioner of police Nupur Prasad.

“But the boy’s family has suspected foul play in the case as he apparently told them he was going to meet some friends,” the DCP added.

The boy, Luv Sharma, lived with his parents in Mansarovar Park in east Delhi. He was a class nine student at a private school in Shahdara and his father runs a book printing business.

According to the family’s statement, Sharma left home soon after returning from school on Wednesday evening. He returned home a few hours later, but only to ride away on his bicycle once again around 7pm.

Prasad said they had ruled any possibility of a robbery as the boy had his headphones on and his mobile phone, wallet and wrist watch were found at the spot.

“The boy’s family has suspected foul play in the case as he apparently told them he was going to meet some friends. We are considering their apprehensions and probing all possibilities in this death,” the DCP said.

The officer said CCTV cameras were being scanned for any possible footage of the incident. “We will await the autopsy report and the findings of our investigating team before concluding anything,” Prasad said.
