Delhi weather to stay pleasant till Thursday, brace for more showers and thunder

Delhi woke up to a pleasant cloudy Monday morning, with light rain in some parts of the city that has seen mercury flirt with 45° Celsius-mark in the last few days.

And, the good news is that the weather is expected to hold, at least till Thursday.

The rain on Sunday – some areas also got hail – brought the minimum temperature down to 21.8°C on Monday morning.

“Monday will see a partly cloudy sky. Rain and thundershowers are likely during the day,” an official of the meteorological department told HT.

The maximum temperature on Monday was expected to be around 39°C, the official said, adding the city would see similar weather the next day.

On Tuesday, the highest temperature will be around 38°C while minimum is expected to stay at 23°C.

The maximum will climb a notch and minimum by two degrees by Thursday. “There are chances of rain, thunderstorm till Thursday. It will remain pleasant,” the Met official said.

On Sunday evening, Delhi and neighbouring areas got a good spell of rain brought on by a western disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir.

By 8.30pm, the Safdarjung observatory, the readings of which are considered the official figure for the city, had recorded 16.6mm of rain cooling the city by 9.2°C. The temperature was 28.8°C at 5.30pm compared with 38°C at the same time on Saturday.

The turn in the weather, which threw traffic out of gear in some parts due to water logging, brought hundreds of people at India Gate and local parks for an evening stroll.
