A 77-year-old woman was found dead at her home in south Delhi’s Greater Kailash-II on Tuesday morning.

The main door of her first-floor flat was open but the police could not confirm if there had been any robbery. Police, though, have not ruled out the murder-robbery angle.

Suri lived alone for the past eight years after her husband died. The couple did not have any children.

Romil Baaniya, deputy commissioner of police (south), said the exact cause of death can be established after they receive the autopsy report.

The woman’s autopsy could not be conducted till Wednesday evening because the police were waiting for her brother, who lives in England. No case was registered till Wednesday evening.

During enquiry, police found that the body was first discovered by Suri’s domestic help Shama, when she reached at 10 am. Police questioned Shama, a resident of Dakshinpuri. She said the main door was open.

“Shama said she called out but her employer did answer. Suri was not in her bedroom when Shama went to check on her. She then went to the bathroom and found Suri lying face down on the floor. Blood was coming out of her mouth,” said the officer.

Shama raised an alarm and alerted nearby families. One of them informed Chauhan.

Chauhan told police he last visited his aunt eight years ago during his uncle’s funeral. Neighbours told police Suri’s husband worked in Nairobi, Kenya.

“We have not ruled out the robbery angle though no signs of ransacking were seen. We don’t know if any cash, jewellery or valuables have gone missing,” the officer said.
