Ghaziabad children collect Rs 35,050 to donate to Kerala flood relief fund

The five children in the age group of 9 to 11 years raised the money from 455 flat owners in their housing society.

Moved by the plight of the flood victims of Kerala, a group of five children living in a private apartment complex in Ghaziabad have come together and collected Rs 35,050 to donate to the chief minister’s relief fund. The children managed to collect the money in three days.

Sambhav Jain, Manasvi Jain, Ahaana Chauhan, Aaliya Thakral and Suhaani Sabharwal live in Indirapuram’s Saya Zenith apartment complex.

They are in the age-group of 9-11 years. They usually play together during the evenings.

After stories of Kerala’s severe flood situation became household talk, with residents and schools discussing the sending of relief material to the state, the children decided to do their bit to help.

Manasvi and Sambhav’s grandfather mooted the idea that the children should help out, and all of them joined in.

“All of us heard the news and had read about the situation. These people needed help and we thought we should to do it. The people in our society are also helpful and decided to give us money even though they had already contributed,” Manasvi Jain said.

“There are 455 flats in our complex spread across different towers. These children went to every household and asked residents to donate. They went multiple times if they didn’t find anyone at home,” Pritam Kothadiya, a resident of the apartment complex, said.

He added that the children approached him to help them send the money to the authorities. “The entire collection was handled by the children without adult supervision. We only gave them a list to keep track of the amount and who was giving them money. We later transferred it online to the chief minister’s relief fund,” Kothadiya added.
