Govindpuri killing: People just stood and watched as he was stabbed, says friend

She said there were five or six people in the park when the robbers started attacking Naresh, but no one came forward to help.

“Naresh would have been alive if even a single man in the park had come forward to help us. It was one man against four armed robbers, but he never gave up. Around five-six people stood and watched the fight till Naresh was stabbed,” said the 21-year-old woman who was with Naresh Dader, when the four men mugged the couple and stabbed Dader inside a park in Govindpuri.

Outside the AIIMS mortuary on Sunday, she struggled to recollect how within a span of a few minutes her friend was no more. She said they had met three months ago at a wedding where they were both working. Dader was a catering supervisor while she was the bride’s make-up artist.

“We were sitting in the park when the four men suddenly appeared. After surrounding us, they pointed their knives at us and asked us to hand over our belongings. They first forcibly took out Naresh’s phone from his pocket and then tried to take my phone which was also with him. He allowed them to take his phone, but resisted when they tried to take mine,” said the woman.

The young woman, who works as a freelance bridal make-up artist said she pleaded them to let her take Dader to a hospital. “I even told them I would not inform the police. But they placed the knife on my neck and took my chain, earrings and a nosering. Before leaving, they warned me to not go to the police,” she said.

Leaving a bleeding Dader in the park, the young woman ran towards the park’s security guard who called other locals and rushed to take him to Batra Hospital. At the hospital, doctors said it was too late. Dader was already dead by the time they reached the hospital.
