Guess who is training for the Tokyo Olympics 2020? The children of Delhi Police

In an attempt to motivate the children of Delhi Police, Police Families Welfare Society has started training Delhi Police children for Olympics 2020. 178 have been shortlisted so far.

Fourteen-year-old Sneha Prakash lived her Dangal moment when she knocked off her opponent, Vedant in a selection match for the wrestling category. She is one of the 178 children who have been shortlisted for Mission Olympics 2020 by the Police Families Welfare Society (PFWS).

Police Families Welfare Society thanked Amulya Patnaik (centre), Commissioner of Police, Delhi.

Suchana Patnaik, president, PFWS, and Dr Sushi Singh, vice-president, PFWS, feel that it’s the perfect way to encourage children of the 80,000 police force to earn laurels for the country. “Under the Mission Olympics 2020 programme, 569 children were given training by 26 coaches in five sports categories (athletics, badminton, football, shooting and wrestling),” says Patnaik.

These children received training from coaches of international repute and also from coaches of Delhi Police Sports Team. Ramesh Kumar, Delhi Police wresting coach, says, “All of them are talented. With proper guidance, these children will be able to bring medals and make our country proud.”

Commissioner of Delhi Police, Amulya Patnaik, said that the society and the mothers of the wards have contributed immensely to the cause. “Police families are rich in talent and it’s our responsibility to provide them with suitable opportunities. The wives of the police personnel make great sacrifices and I would like to thank them in making this programme a success.”

They are the wards of Police families and as a part of our social responsibility, we are offering them this opportunity to make the best of their talent.”
