“We have cleared the issue of North Corporation and in next two days notification will be done,” said Delhi government minister Satyendra Jain during a press conference.

Now, the North MCD will have new zone named as Keshavpuram, which will be created after taking out wards from Rohini and Civil Lines zones. It will have total of 18 wards including Kamla Nagar, Model Town and Shalimar Bagh.

Also, the Sadar Paharganj and City Zone will be merged and named as ‘City Paharganj’ zone. However, the total number of zones will remain six in North Corporation.

“The government has notified the zonal boundaries without making any change in the MCD’s proposal and we are thankful to them for that. Our decision to create new zone was aimed at providing better civic services to citizens and improve administration as well,” said North MCD mayor Preety Agarwal.

“The property tax office at Keshavpuram is likely to be the DC office. Also we have prepared plans for shifting the staff here as well but things will be implemented after receiving copy of the gazette notification from Delhi Government,” said Praveen Gupta, commissioner, North DMC.

As per the new proposal there will be 13 wards in Karol Bagh Zone, 16 wards in Narela Zone, 13 wards in City and Sadar Paharaganj Zone, 26 wards in Rohini Zone and 18 wards in Civil Lines Zone.

The proposal for notifying the new boundaries of municipal zone was moved before the Delhi Government on June 5 by North MCD. Though the government had notified the zonal boundaries of South and East on August 5, but no consensus was reached for giving final nod to North Corporation.

North Corporation had been arguing that after delimitation, some of the assembly constituencies are now divided among two of the zones and boundaries of various wards had changed. That’s why there was requirement for outlining the new boundaries of all the municipal zones comprising of new wards in north Corporation.
