Property dealer shot dead in south Delhi’s Batla House

Police are probing if a property dispute led to the murder.

A 35-year-old property dealer was shot dead allegedly by two unidentified gunmen in south Delhi’s Batla House near Jamia Nagar on Monday evening.

Police said the attackers were wearing helmet and ran away after firing four rounds at the property dealer. The victim’s family members, however, claimed that six rounds were fired and the assailants had come on a motorcycle.

Police have registered a case of murder at the Jamia Nagar police station. Police said their initial probe has revealed that the deceased, Dilshad Khan, had a property dispute with somebody over a property. They are also probing if contract killers were involved in the case.

Khan lived in Joga Bai Extension in Jamia Nagar with his wife and three children. His relatives said he was zila panchayat member of ward number 34, Sathla village in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut.

They said Khan was also associated with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). Police said they were not aware of Khan’s political links and that they were verifying if he was a zila panchayat member.

Khan’s nephew, Aadil, said his uncle was at home when he received a phone call and the caller asked him to meet him outside his home.

Deputy commissioner of police (southeast) Chinmoy Biswal said the police control room received a call at 6.05 pm about firing at Sir Syed Road in Batla House.

A police team reached there and found that an injured man, Dilshad Khan, had already been moved to Holy Family hospital by locals, said Biswal.

“Our team went to the hospital and learnt that Khan had passed away. Preliminary enquiry from the local residents revealed that two men wearing helmet fired four bullets on Khan and fled. We have learnt about Khan’s dispute over a property and are now verifying if that was the motive behind the attack. Efforts are on to identify and nab the attackers,” he added.
